Bnei Menashe בני מנשה

A community in the northeast Indian states of Manipur and Mizoram that holds it descends from the tribe of Manasseh, one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. In 2005 Israel's Sephardi Chief Rabbi recognized them as descendants of Israel, and several thousand have moved to Israel after formal conversion. India's older Jewish communities, the Bene Israel of Mumbai and the Jews of Cochin, came to Israel mainly in the 1950s and 1960s.
