Decapolis דקאפוליס

League of ten Greek-speaking cities of the Roman era, mostly east of the Jordan River in present-day Jordan and Syria. Beit She'an, then called Scythopolis, was the only one west of the river. The cities shared Greek culture and had a measure of self-rule under Rome.
