Moab מואב

Places

Kingdom on the plateau east of the Dead Sea, between the Arnon and Zered rivers in present-day Jordan, with its capital at Dibon. The Mesha Stele, set up about 840 BCE, records King Mesha's revolt against Israel and is among the oldest inscriptions to name the God of Israel. Moab is also the setting for much of the Book of Ruth, whose heroine was a Moabite woman who joined the Jewish people.
