Waiting period (1967) תקופת ההמתנה

Events

The three tense weeks before the Six-Day War. In mid-May 1967 Egypt moved large forces into Sinai and had the UN Emergency Force withdrawn. On 22 May it closed the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping, which Israel had long called a cause for war. Jordan signed a defense pact with Egypt on 30 May and Iraqi troops followed. Israel mobilized its reserves while diplomacy failed. On 1 June Levi Eshkol formed a unity government with Moshe Dayan as defense minister, and four days later the war began.
