The West Bank grew from 1.9 million in 1997 to 3.4 million in 2025, and Gaza from 1.0 million to 2.1 million, for about 5.6 million in the two territories. West of the Jordan River there are about 15.1 million people once East Jerusalem Arabs are counted only once. Jews and Others are 51.5 percent of that total, and “Others” are about 0.4 to 0.5 million of the Jews and Others group. Arab citizens of Israel are 14.2 percent.
Sources. 1997, 2007 and 2017: Palestinian censuses. 2023: Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) projection, as listed by CityPopulation. 2025: PCBS, West Bank 3.43 million and Gaza about 2.13 million, with Gaza about 10.6 percent below its pre-war projection and uncertain because of the war. Israeli figures: CBS release for the end of 2025. The PCBS West Bank figure includes East Jerusalem Arabs, who are also counted in the Israeli Arab figure. The bar removes about 400,000, based on 395,200 Muslim residents of Jerusalem in CBS’s 2025 count plus Christians, so the West Bank segment is an approximation. CBS’s Arab count includes East Jerusalem Arabs, most of whom hold residency rather than citizenship. The other Arab citizens of Israel are citizens, counted as Israelis.
