INFOGRAPHICS

DEMOGRAPHICS The Mosaic Within

Communities inside the religious categories

Arab citizens of Israel, end of 2025, about 2,147,000

Muslims 86.1%

Muslims 1,849,000 (86.1%). Arab Christians about 145,000 (6.8%, green). Druze about 153,000 (7.1%, purple). The Negev Bedouin, an estimated 300,000, are counted among the Muslims.

Christians in Israel, end of 2025, 184,200

Arab Christians 78.7% Non-Arab Christians 21.3%

Non-Arab Christians are mostly immigrants from the former Soviet Union and their families. CBS counts them with “Jews and Others”.

Jewish Israelis by ancestry, 2019 study

Mizrahi 44.9% Ashkenazi 31.8% Soviet 12.4%

Mixed or other 7.9% (gray), Ethiopian about 3% (purple). Mizrahi means Jews from the Middle East and North Africa. Soviet means those who arrived from 1989 on.

Small communities (counts from earlier CBS and community reports)

· Circassians, about 4,000 to 5,000, Sunni Muslims, in two villages in the Galilee

· Samaritans, 712 in 2007, on Mount Gerizim and in Holon

· Alawites, about 4,000, mostly in Ghajar

· Ahmadis, about 2,200 in Kababir, Haifa

· Druze of the Golan Heights, about 23,000, mostly holding residency rather than citizenship

Each large category hides a distinct community. Most Arab citizens are Sunni Muslim, but the Druze, Christians and Bedouin have separate institutions, histories and in some cases different military service. Jews are nearly half Mizrahi.

Sources. Muslim total from CBS as reported by JNS. Christian total and the 78.7 percent Arab share (end of 2024) from CBS as reported in January 2026, so the 2025 Arab- Christian count is an estimate. Druze is the remainder of the CBS Arab total, which also matches the CBS 2024 Druze figure of 153,000. Ancestry shares from a 2019 sample- based study cited by Wikipedia. The Bedouin estimate is from the ACI Task Force source sheet. Small-community figures are from Wikipedia and are the older counts.
