DATES CONFLICT SUMMARY
1947 Nov to 1949 Jul 20 War of Independence Declaration of independence on May 14, 1948 and five Arab armies attack on May 15. Armistice agreements are signed on Feb 24, Mar 23, Apr 3 and Jul 20, 1949.
1956 Oct 29 to Nov 7 Sinai War Israel takes Sinai and Gaza with Britain and France. A withdrawal under US and Soviet pressure ends in March 1957.
1967 Jun 5 to 10 Six-Day War Israel takes Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem, Gaza, Sinai and the Golan Heights.
1967 Jun 8 to 1970 Aug 7 War of Attrition Shelling and air raids along the Suez Canal. A ceasefire takes hold on August 7, 1970.
1973 Oct 6 to 25 Yom Kippur War Egypt and Syria attack. Ceasefires on October 22 and 25.
1978 Mar 14 Operation Litani Israeli forces enter southern Lebanon after the Coastal Road massacre.
1981 Jun 7 Osirak raid Israel destroys Iraq’s nuclear reactor.
1982 Jun 6 Lebanon War Invasion to remove the PLO. Israel leaves southern Lebanon on May 24, 2000.
1987 Dec 8 to 1993 Sep 13 First Intifada Uprising in Judea and Samaria and Gaza. It ends with the Oslo signing.
1991 Jan 18 to Feb 25 Scud attacks Iraqi missiles strike Israeli cities during the Gulf War. Israel does not respond.
2000 Sep 28 to 2005 Feb 8 Second Intifada Waves of suicide bombings. It ends with the Sharm el-Sheikh summit.
2002 Mar 29 to May 3 Operation Defensive Shield
Israeli forces re-enter cities in Judea and Samaria after the Passover massacre of March 27.
2006 Jul 12 to Aug 14 Second Lebanon War Fighting with Hezbollah that ends with a UN ceasefire.
2008 Dec 27 to 2009 Jan 18 Operation Cast Lead Gaza campaign against Hamas.
2012 Nov 14 to 21 Operation Pillar of Defense
Eight days of fighting with Hamas in Gaza.
2014 Jul 8 to Aug 26 Operation Protective Edge
A 50-day war with Hamas.
2021 May 10 to 21 Operation Guardian of the Walls
An 11-day conflict with Hamas.
2023 Oct 7 onward Swords of Iron Begins with the Hamas attack. Ceasefires on Jan 19, 2025 and Oct 10, 2025. Fighting with Hezbollah ends with a ceasefire on Nov 27, 2024.
2025 Jun 13 to 24 War with Iran Twelve days of Israeli and Iranian strikes.
