Hula Valley
Paradise for birds and bird lovers
The Hula Valley in the northern Galilee is a wetland on one of the great bird migration routes between Europe, Asia, and Africa. Each autumn tens of thousands of cranes stop here, along with pelicans, storks, and many other species, and the passage over Israel is estimated at hundreds of millions of birds a year. The valley's marshes were drained in the 1950s to fight malaria and create farmland, and part of the area was later reflooded to restore the ecosystem and create the Agamon Hula park. Visitors can rent bicycles for the paths.
